Murduff's hat trick boosts Picton over Campbellford, 7-1Prince Edward Thu, Feb 20, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
A hat trick by Kenny Murduff was the highlight in Pirates' 7-1 win against the Campbellford Rebels. Murduff got on the scoresheet 12:11 into the first period. He then added goals at 7:25 into the second and at 3:40 into the third.The win gave the Picton Pirates a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series. Picton was led by goalie Adam Wood, who finished with 27 saves while allowing one goal. Despite the solid performance, Wood will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 1.0 entering the contest. The Pirates made Rebels' goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, racking up 42 shots and forcing 35 saves. Cole Mahoney made 32 stops and Kevin Valdes made three. Picton put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Campbellford to score on any of its four power plays. Picton also got points from Wil Healey, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Picton included Jack Davison, Garrett Nichol, and Corey Prince, who each put in one. More assists for Picton came via Steven Clarke, who had two, Evan Greer, who had three, and Nolan Powers, Brian Bunnett, Devin McCann, Ryan Sizer, and Griffin McCarty, who contributed one a piece. The Rebels were led by Cole Hamilton, who scored the team's only goal. Hamilton scored 7:59 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Campbellford. The Pirates incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Campbellford incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
