Belle River shrugs off penalties, upends Blenheim, 5-2Belle River Lakeshore Arena Tue, Feb 25, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Belle River Canadiens, which found themselves down a man often, weathered the Blenheim Blades' power play opportunities and emerged with a 5-2 victory. With the win, Belle River evened the series at 2-2 in the best of seven showdown. The Canadiens were sparked by Zack Bedard, who tallied one goal and one assist. Bedard scored 3:06 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Belle River. Brenden Crundwell assisted on the tally. Belle River forced Blades' goaltenders to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots and forcing 28 saves. Adam Leboeuf made 12 stops and Eric Stewardson made 16. The Canadiens put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Blenheim to score on any of its nine power plays. Belle River also got points from Mike Ditty, who also had one goal and one assist. Belle River also had goals scored by Sebastian Kanally, Hunter Corp, and Kody Gagnon, who each put in one. More assists for Belle River came via Branden Larocque, who had two and Brad Carroll, Nick Tavoleiri, and JJ Percy, who contributed one a piece. The Blades stifled Belle River's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Mitch Topliffe made 28 saves for the Canadiens on 30 shots. Belle River incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. Blenheim incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. For the Blades, Bryce Broad was ejected from the game. |
