Wingham uses big second period to beat Hanover, 9-1

The Wingham Ironmen used a seven-goal second period to put away the Hanover Barons, 9-1.

The win by Wingham clinched the best of seven series at 4-0.

The Ironmen were led by Ryan McNeil, who had one goal and one assist. McNeil scored 5:24 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Wingham. Jamie Huber provided the assist.

Wingham forced Barons' netminders to work without much rest, racking up 51 shots and forcing 42 saves. Ben Errington made 27 stops and Cam Harron made 15. The Ironmen capitalized on Hanover's penalties, netting three goals while skating with a man advantage. Wingham got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Wingham also got points from Liam Nemett, who also registered two goals and one assist, Brett Brophy, who also grabbed two goals and three assists to lead the team in points, Aaron Armstrong, who also finished with two goals and two assists, and Jeremy Ross, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Wingham also got a goal from Matt McCracken as well. More assists for Wingham came via Alex Kuntz, who had two and Keaton Willis, Justin Jacklin, and Carter Stewart, who each chipped in one.

Ryne Weppler also scored for Hanover. In addition, Hanover received assists from Justin D Graham and Wendel Cameron, who contributed one a piece.

Ben Nelson made 14 saves for the Ironmen on 15 shots. Wingham incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. The Barons incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
