Kuntz nets hat trick, leads Wingham to 8-5 win over Hanover

The Hanover Barons could not stop the Wingham Ironmen's Alex Kuntz, who tallied a hat trick in an 8-5 win.

Kuntz got on the scoresheet 16:39 into the first period. He then added goals at 7:42 into the second and at 8:05 into the second.

After the loss made the series score 3-0 in the best of seven series, Hanover faces elimination next time out.

The Barons fell victim to a deadly Wingham power play, which ripped Hanover for five goals.

The Ironmen forced the Barons' goalies to work between the pipes, taking 47 shots and forcing 39 saves. Cody Van der Heide(AP) made 24 stops and Cam Harron made 15.

Wingham also got points from Brett Brophy, who also registered one goal and three assists, Aaron Armstrong, who also tallied two goals and two assists, and Ryan McNeil, who also had one goal and two assists. Matt McCracken also scored for Wingham. More assists for Wingham came via Liam Nemett, Keaton Willis, Jamie Huber, Travis Donaldson, and Jaden Shrier, who contributed one a piece.

Hanover was helped by Brodie Lemay(AP), who finished with two goals. Lemay(AP) scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 12:52 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Barons had gotten the advantage when Wingham's McCracken was sent off for slashing. Ryne Weppler assisted on the tally. Lemay(AP)'s next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 Wingham with 15:10 left in the second period. Hanover earned a power play opportunity when Josh Perdue was put in the box for hooking. Tyson Soers picked up the assist. Hanover additionally got points from Brad Pitt, who also grabbed two goals and one assist and Jarrett Kuntz, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. In addition, Hanover received assists from Justin D Graham, who had two and Andrew Scott and Wendel Cameron, who each chipped in one.

The Ironmen's Shrier stopped 21 shots out of the 26 that he faced. Wingham incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. The Barons incurred 38 minutes in penalty time with 14 minors.
