Dunnville falls to Hagersville in overtime, 6-5 (OT)

The Hagersville Hawks' Cole Martin scored 8:27 into overtime to beat the Dunnville Jr. Mudcats, 6-5 (OT).

The win moved Hagersville to down 2-1 in the best of seven series.

The Hawks got the win behind a great game by Derek Medeiros, who had one goal and four assists. Medeiros scored on the power play 13:50 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Hagersville. Hagersville had gained a power play chance when Jeff May was whistled for high sticking. Aleck Boyd picked up the assist.

Dunnville was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as the Hawks were able to score four times while on the power play.

Hagersville kept the Jr. Mudcats' goalie busy throughout the game, and Josh Rosettani made 35 saves on 41 shots.

Hagersville also got points from Mitch Green, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Boyd, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Hagersville also had goals scored by Brad Hornby and John Monture, who each put in one. In addition, Hagersville received assists from Jacob Brown, Daniel Medeiros, and Austin Dezeeuw, who contributed one a piece.

The Hawks were unable to stop Dunnville from sending pucks towards the net, and the Jr. Mudcats eventually piled up 56 shots on goal. Dunnville was held back by its power play unit, which tallied two goals on 10 chances.

The Jr. Mudcats were helped by Austin Golding, who tallied two goals. Golding scored the first of his two goals at 10:18 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Hagersville. Luke Rowe provided the assist. Golding's next tally made the score 4-4 with 4:16 left in the second period. Dunnville had taken the advantage when Hagersville's Dezeeuw got sent off for roughing after whistle. Tyler Springer picked up the assist. Dunnville additionally got points from Springer, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Dunnville included Trevor Smith and Landon Minor, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Dunnville were Evan Huckalo, Steven Czepek, Mack Steele, Jordan Bolibrook, and Hayden Molen, who each chipped in one.

Ian Sylves recorded 51 saves for the Hawks. Hagersville ended with 27 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors and one major. The Hawks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Boyd was ejected from the game. The Jr. Mudcats incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. For Dunnville, May was ejected from the game.
