Grimsby survives penalties, beats Dundas, 5-2

The Dundas Blues failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Grimsby Peach Kings shook off a number of penalties to win, 5-2.

The win by Grimsby broke a deadlock and gave the Peach Kings a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series.

Grimsby stifled Dundas' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Blues were unable to stop the Peach Kings from sending pucks towards the net, and Grimsby eventually piled up 39 shots on goal.

The Peach Kings were helped by Jordan McCarl, who finished with one goal. McCarl scored 2:38 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Grimsby. Andrew Kolodzey provided the assist. Grimsby also got points from Kolodzey, who also registered one goal and one assist and Matthew Paonessa, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Grimsby also had goals scored by Joshua Kozielski and Colin Wierts, who each put in one. In addition, Grimsby received assists from Aidan McCreadie, who had two and Cooper Nauboris and Brennan Smith, who each chipped in one.

Dundas was helped by Tyler Jones, who had one goal. Jones scored 17:40 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Grimsby. Dan Pelosini assisted on the tally. Dundas additionally got points from Pelosini, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Dundas came via Chad Carey, Matt Johnson, and Brayden Knott, who contributed one a piece.

Grimsby's Josh Astorino stopped 21 shots out of the 23 that he faced. The Peach Kings incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Dan Davies made 34 saves for the Blues on 38 shots. Dundas incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For the Blues, Matt Tate was ejected from the game.
