Early goals doom Dundas, falls to Grimsby, 7-0

The Grimsby Peach Kings jumped out to a four-point advantage by the end of the first period and beat the Dundas Blues, 7-0.

The win gave Grimsby a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Peach Kings were sparked by Andrew McMurtrie, who finished with one goal and one assist. McMurtrie scored 33 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Grimsby. Jeromy Hopkins assisted on the tally.

Grimsby made Dundas' netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, ripping 45 shots and forcing 38 saves. Brock Novak made 21 stops and Dan Davies made 17. The Peach Kings put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Blues to score on any of their four power plays.

Grimsby additionally got points from Matthew Paonessa, who also tallied one goal and two assists, Jordan McCarl, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Brennan Smith, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Grimsby also got a goal from Eric Cerino as well. Other players who recorded assists for Grimsby were Cooper Nauboris and Liam McRory, who contributed one a piece.

Dundas' penalty kill was ineffective, and let in three goals to Grimsby's power play unit.

Josh Astorino recorded 15 saves for the Peach Kings. Grimsby incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Blues ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. Dundas ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Nick McMullen was ejected from the game.
