Kincardine falls to Walkerton in overtime, 8-7 (OT)

The Walkerton Hawks' Jordan Turcotte scored 6:38 into overtime to beat the Kincardine Bulldogs, 8-7 (OT).

The win gave Walkerton a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Hawks almost relinquished a two-score lead. Walkerton made the score 6-4 on a goal by Calvin Penney at 2:24 in the third period. Kincardine pulled to within 6-5 on a goal by Brett Catto at 4:25 in the third period.

Ryan Hamelin was all over the ice for the Hawks, as he tallied one goal and three assists in the win. Hamelin scored on the power play 9:32 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Walkerton. Walkerton had taken the advantage when the Bulldogs' Catto got sent off for interference. Penney provided the assist.

The Hawks kept Kincardine's goalie busy throughout the game, and Mitch Campbell made 40 saves on 48 shots. Walkerton's penalty kill unit could not stop the Bulldogs' power play, which converted on three of three opportunities.

Walkerton also got points from Drew Davidson, who also finished with two goals and one assist and Penney, who also grabbed two goals and one assist. Others who scored for Walkerton included David Gallo and Lauchlin Elder, who each put in one. In addition, Walkerton received assists from Tyler Snyder, who had two and Chris Gillman, Brett Coulson, and Dave Mercer, who each chipped in one.

The Hawks were unable to stop Kincardine from sending pucks towards the net, and the Bulldogs eventually piled up 46 shots on goal. Kincardine's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

The Bulldogs were helped by Sam Feagan, who racked up one goal and two assists. Feagan scored on the power play 17:43 into the third period to make the score 7-7. Kincardine had gained a power play chance when Snyder was whistled for high sticking. Catto picked up the assist. Kincardine additionally got points from Dalton Hnatko, who also registered one goal and one assist, Catto, who also had one goal and two assists, and Tanner Simpson, who also tallied one goal and two assists. Kincardine also had goals scored by Carter Strachan, Shawn Flynn, and Cody Britton, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Kincardine were Shawn Moore, Gerritt Satosek, Jamie Miller, Matt Baker, and Brandon Priestap, who contributed one a piece.

Trevor Fleming made 39 saves for Walkerton on 46 shots. The Hawks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Bulldogs incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
