Kuntz's hat trick boosts Wingham over Hanover, 12-2

A hat trick by Alex Kuntz was the highlight in Ironmen's 12-2 win against the Hanover Barons.

Kuntz's first goal came 9:50 into the first period. He then added goals at 4:41 into the second and at 9:44 into the second.

The win gave the Wingham Ironmen a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Wingham gained an early advantage, leading 7-1 by the end of the first period.

The Ironmen pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 63 penalty minutes.

Wingham forced Hanover's netminders to work in net, launching 51 shots and forcing 39 saves. Ben Errington made 19 stops and Cam Harron made 20. The Ironmen's penalty kill managed to stymie the Barons' power play, giving up only one goal while playing with a man down.

Wingham also got points from Aaron Armstrong, who also grabbed two goals and two assists, Jamie Huber, who also had two goals and one assist, and Ryan McNeil, who also registered one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Wingham included Mason Keating, who had two and Darren Kerr and Justin Jacklin, who scored one goal each. More assists for Wingham came via Liam Nemett, Brett Brophy, Keaton Willis, Greg Scott, and Travis Donaldson, who contributed one a piece.

Hanover also had goals scored by Tyson Soers and Jarrett Kuntz, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Hanover were Justin D Graham and Brad Pitt, who each chipped in one.

Wingham's starting goalie, Ben Nelson, made 15 saves and finished with the win before he was taken out in favor of Jaden Shrier, who stopped eight shots. The Ironmen registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Wingham ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jordie Schneider was ejected from the game. Hanover incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with 15 minors. For the Barons, Denver Hill and Tanner Bastien were ejected from the contest.
