Walkerton beats Kincardine 4-0 as Fleming gains shutout

Trevor Fleming recorded a shutout against the Kincardine Bulldogs as the Walkerton Hawks picked up a 4-0 win.

The win gave Walkerton a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Hawks got the win thanks to a great game by Jordan Turcotte, who had two goals and one assist. Turcotte scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 6:16 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Walkerton. Walkerton had gotten the advantage when Kincardine's Tanner Simpson was sent off for holding. Drew Davidson picked up the assist. Turcotte's next tally on the power play made the score 4-0 Walkerton with 7:29 left in the third period. A cross checking penalty on Cody Britton had put the Hawks on the power play. Davidson assisted on the tally.

Walkerton pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 28 penalty minutes.

The Hawks' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Kincardine power plays. Walkerton kept the Bulldogs' goalie busy throughout the game, and Mitch Campbell made 28 saves on 32 shots. The Hawks got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Others who scored for Walkerton included Calvin Penney and Dave Mercer, who scored one goal each. More assists for Walkerton came via Chris Gillman, David Gallo, and Ryan Hamelin, who each chipped in one.

Walkerton's Fleming stopped 27 shots out of the 27 that he faced. The Hawks registered three goals on 10 power play opportunities. Kincardine incurred 38 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
