The Wingham Ironmen relied on the scoring touch of Jamie Huber, who netted four goals, to beat the Hanover Barons, 8-0. Huber's first goal came four seconds into the first period. He then added goals at 5:43 into the first, at 15:55 into the first, and at 2:01 into the second.The win gave Wingham a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series. Hanover's 10 penalties came back to haunt it, as the Barons let up four goals while on the penalty kill. The Ironmen forced Barons' goaltenders to work all game long, finishing with 50 shots and forcing 42 saves. Cam Harron made 22 stops and Ben Errington made 20. The defensemen of Wingham were also effective in Hanover's zone, and came away with two goals. Wingham additionally got points from Brett Brophy, who also tallied two goals and one assist and Alex Kuntz, who also registered one goal and one assist. Josh Perdue also scored for Wingham. Other players who recorded assists for Wingham were Aaron Armstrong, who had two, Ryan McNeil, who had three, and Darren Kerr and Travis Donaldson, who each chipped in one. Ben Nelson rejected 16 shots on goal for the Ironmen. Wingham incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Barons incurred 40 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
