Ottawa West Golden Knights rolls over Gatineau Mustangs, 5-2

Ottawa West Golden Knights had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-2 win over Gatineau Mustangs.

After the loss made the series score 3-2 in the best of seven series, Gatineau Mustangs faces elimination next time out.

Ottawa West Golden Knights pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 34 penalty minutes.

Ottawa West Golden Knights was led by Mike Darnowski, who finished with one goal. Darnowski scored 3:27 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Ottawa West Golden Knights. Mike Milito assisted on the tally.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 9:04 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with six game misconducts.

Ottawa West Golden Knights put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Gatineau Mustangs to score on any of its seven power plays.

Ottawa West Golden Knights also got points from Derrin Lehoux, who also registered one goal and one assist. Ottawa West Golden Knights also got a goal from Zac Rodier as well. In addition, Ottawa West Golden Knights received assists from Jeff Gottzmann and Matt Connolly, who each chipped in one and Dave Kilrea and Ethan Allard, who contributed two a piece.

Gatineau Mustangs got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Eric Plumadore made 27 saves for Ottawa West Golden Knights on 29 shots. Ottawa West Golden Knights registered two goals on six power play opportunities. Team's Corey Waddell-Harris and Allard were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Jean-Philippe Giroux recorded 23 saves for Gatineau Mustangs. Gatineau Mustangs ended with 32 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors and two majors. For Gatineau Mustangs, Raphael Grandmaison and Simon Damphousse were ejected from the contest.
