Gatineau Mustangs holds on for 4-3 win against Ottawa West Golden Knights

Ottawa West Golden Knights tried its best to erase a two-goal deficit, but Gatineau Mustangs would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-3.

Gatineau Mustangs took a 4-2 lead during the third period, only to have Ottawa West Golden Knights storm back on a Jeff Gottzmann goal 19:16 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The win gave Gatineau Mustangs a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Gatineau Mustangs was paced by Maxime Gagnon, who tallied one goal. Gagnon scored 16:41 into the third period to make the score Gatineau Mustangs. Joey Mazerolle assisted on the tally.

Gatineau Mustangs' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Ottawa West Golden Knights power plays. Gatineau Mustangs kept Ottawa West Golden Knights' goalie busy throughout the game, and Eric Plumadore made 29 saves on 33 shots.

Gatineau Mustangs additionally got points from Mikael Gervais, who also registered one goal and one assist. Gatineau Mustangs also had goals scored by Vincent Proulx and Dominik Robinson, who scored one goal each. In addition, Gatineau Mustangs received assists from Bruno Leblanc, who had two and Vincent Lauzon and Simon Damphousse, who contributed one a piece.

Gatineau Mustangs was unable to stop Ottawa West Golden Knights from sending pucks towards the net, and Ottawa West Golden Knights eventually piled up 42 shots on goal.

Ottawa West Golden Knights was helped by Cody Kyle, who finished with one goal. Kyle scored 14:38 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Gatineau Mustangs. Jack Kilrea also scored for Ottawa West Golden Knights. More assists for Ottawa West Golden Knights came via Eric Wintjes, who had two and Derrin Lehoux and Matt Connolly, who each chipped in one.

Gatineau Mustangs' Justin Malette-Trottier stopped 39 shots out of the 42 that he faced. Gatineau Mustangs incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Ottawa West Golden Knights incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
