GAME RECAP

Huge game by Larson boosts Lakefield over Port Perry, 4-1

Lakefield-Smith CC    Tue, Feb 18, 2014

Behind a great game by Nathan Larson, who had two goals and one assist, the Lakefield Chiefs defeated the Port Perry Mojacks, 4-1.

Larson found the back of the net 10:44 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Lakefield and again while 11:29 into the first to make the score 2-0 Lakefield.

The win gave Lakefield a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Chiefs pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 50 penalty minutes.

Lakefield managed to hold Port Perry's power play largely in check, allowing only one goal while on the disadvantage.

Lakefield also had goals scored by Shawn Mackie and Connor Blair, who scored one goal each. In addition, Lakefield received assists from Eric Shewell, who had one and Eric Oosting and Travis Brault, who contributed two a piece.

The Mojacks were led by Kyle Powell, who scored the team's only goal. Powell scored on the power play 4:47 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Lakefield. Port Perry had gotten the advantage when the Chiefs' Shewell was sent off for unsportsmanlike conduct. Brodie Myers picked up the assist.

Lakefield's Zach Wainman stopped 14 shots out of the 15 that he faced. The Chiefs registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Drew Siydock made 25 saves for the Mojacks on 29 shots. Port Perry incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
