xPickering's comeback falls short, xCobourg wins 3-1

The xCobourg Cougars, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by the xPickering Panthers and clinched a 3-1 victory.

xCobourg led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Cougars' Mitchell Gibson's scored at 4:06 in the second period to put xCobourg up 3-0.

Liam Grande had two goals to lead the Cougars to victory. Grande scored at 41 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 xCobourg and again while on the power play 8:55 into the first to make the score 2-0 xCobourg.

xPickering was stymied by xCobourg netminder Nathan Perry, who stopped 29 shots during the victory. Perry managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.28 prior to the game.

The Cougars excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. xCobourg forced the Panthers goalie Steven Dombrosky to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots.

xCobourg additionally got points from Gibson, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for xCobourg were Connor Armour, who had three and Alex D Oliveira and Mason Marchment, who contributed one a piece.

xPickering was held below its usual level of production. The Panthers put an average of 3.1 pucks into the net per game.

xPickering was led by Mark Tenuta, who scored the team's only goal. Tenuta scored 17:29 into the second period to make the score 3-1 xCobourg. Ian Chen provided the assist.

The Cougars incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Dombrosky rejected 32 shots on goal for the Panthers. xPickering incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
