Brown's big game bests Burlington in 8-3 Wellington win

The Wellington Dukes' Luc Brown had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing two assists in his team's 8-3 win over the Burlington Cougars.

Brown scored 5:41 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Wellington. Mike Soucier assisted on the tally. Brown dished an assist on Erick Delaurentis's goal that made the score 1-0 Wellington at 7:45 into the first period. He added another helper on Abbott Girduckis's goal that made the score 8-2 Wellington at 18:25 into the third period.

Wellington's offense rang up 36 shots on Burlington's net. The Dukes surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Wellington averages 3.8 goals per contest. The Dukes struggled on the penalty kill, allowing the Cougars to score two power play goals on three chances. Wellington could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 34 minutes in penalties during the game.

Wellington additionally got points from Mike Robinson, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Girduckis, who also had one goal and one assist, Joe McKeown, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Delaurentis, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Wellington also had goals scored by Trevor Cope, Josh Supryka, and Trevor Abbot, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Wellington were Andrew McCann, who had three and Andrew Coupland, Spencer Turcotte, Kyle Paat, and Alex Carnevale, who contributed one a piece.

The Burlington penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and one major for 41 minutes in penalty time. The Cougars had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game.

Burlington was helped by Christian Burel, who grabbed one goal. Burel scored on the power play 7:05 into the second period to make the score 1-1. The Cougars had taken the advantage when the Dukes' Soucier got sent off for tripping. Daniel Campbell provided the assist. Others who scored for Burlington included Nathan Tandan and Dillon Ciprietti, who scored one goal each. More assists for Burlington came via Neil Aird, Derek Rotter, Wyatt Trainer, and Brad Johnson, who each chipped in one.

Taylor Welsh made 14 saves for Wellington on 17 shots. The Dukes registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Jeremy Currie rejected 28 shots on goal for Burlington. The Cougars ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Kyle Kokotailo was ejected from the game.
