Tavistock beats New Hamburg 4-3 after comeback scare

The Tavistock Braves survived a determined comeback attempt by the New Hamburg Firebirds on the way to a 4-3 win.

Tavistock made the score 4-2 on a goal by Dylan Yantzi at 16:19 in the third period, and New Hamburg got as close as 4-3 when Anthony Osterling scored 19:41 into the third period.

The win moved the Braves to down 2-1 in the best of seven series.

Tavistock was led by Yantzi, who racked up one goal.

Tavistock also got points from Derek Cowing, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Tavistock included Sean Leslie and Mackenzie Kalbfleisch, who scored one goal each. More assists for Tavistock came via Jarrod Yantzi, Jeremy Munro, Nick Quehl, Jordan Ritsma, and Angus Rowland AP, who each chipped in one.

The Firebirds' offense rang up 32 shots on the Braves' net.

New Hamburg was helped by Carter Tracey, who registered one goal. Tracey scored 14 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 New Hamburg. Sean Kienapple picked up the assist. New Hamburg also got a goal from Tyler Randerson as well. Other players who recorded assists for New Hamburg were Jay Fried, Kyle Mohr, and Brandon Yantzi, who contributed one a piece.

Tavistock's Trevor Bloch stopped 29 shots out of the 32 that he faced. The Braves incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Eric Peicheff made 23 saves for the Firebirds on 27 shots. New Hamburg totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play. The Firebirds ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Kyle McDonald was ejected from the game.
