Ayr uses big second period to beat Burford, 6-1Burford Community Centre Tue, Feb 11, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Burford Bulldogs was within striking distance after one period, but the Ayr Centennials put the pedal down in the second en route to a 6-1 victory. The win by Ayr clinched the best of seven series at 4-0. Jeff Howlett was all over the ice for the Centennials, as he registered two goals in the win. Howlett found the back of the net on the power play 43 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-0 Ayr and again while 11:15 into the third to make the score 6-0 Ayr. Burford's 14 penalties came back to haunt it, as the Bulldogs let up four goals while on the penalty kill. Ayr put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Burford to score on any of its three power plays. Ayr also got points from Adam Fisher, who also had one goal and one assist and Brendan Schaefer, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Ayr included Chris Spinello and Brett Gibson, who scored one goal each. More assists for Ayr came via Jordan Pettitt, who had three and Jake Whibbs, Ben Poort, Eric Hackborn, Jack Taylor, and Riley Clipper, who contributed one a piece. The Centennials' Lee Doherty stopped 15 shots out of the 16 that he faced. Ayr incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Riley Edwards made 18 saves for the Bulldogs on 24 shots. Burford incurred 38 minutes in penalty time with 14 minors. For the Bulldogs, Kyle Chaney was ejected from the game.
