Burford falls to Ayr in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

The Ayr Centennials' Eric Hackborn scored 9:42 into overtime to beat the Burford Bulldogs, 4-3 (OT).

The win gave Ayr a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Centennials came back from a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. Ayr was down 3-0 after a power play goal by Burford's Tyler Vandenbussche at 13:37 in the second period. The Centennials knotted things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Hackborn at 12:54 in the third period.

Hackborn had a great game for Ayr, netting two goals.

The Centennials' offense rang up 48 shots on the Bulldogs' net. Ayr had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on nine chances. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals.

Others who scored for Ayr included Mike McKnight and Riley Clipper, who scored one goal each. More assists for Ayr came via Adam Fisher, Chris Spinello, Andrew Richard, and Brendan Schaefer, who contributed one a piece.

The Centennials were unable to stop Burford from sending pucks towards the net, and the Bulldogs eventually piled up 33 shots on goal. Team could not crack Ayr's penalty kill and was held to one power play goal while having nine opportunities to play with the man advantage.

Burford was helped by Peter Janeck, who had one goal. Janeck scored 4:31 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Burford. Pat Bates provided the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Burford were Chris Grand, J.J. Harland, and Adam Harris, who each chipped in one.

The Centennials' Lee Doherty stopped 30 shots out of the 33 that he faced. Ayr incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Riley Edwards recorded 44 saves for the Bulldogs. Burford incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. For the Bulldogs, Matt Kliewer was ejected from the game.
