Mitchell falls to Kincardine in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

Brett Catto gave the Kincardine Bulldogs a 5-4 (OT) victory over the Mitchell Hawks when he scored 1:01 into the extra period.

The win by Kincardine broke a deadlock and gave the Bulldogs a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series.

Kincardine nearly gave up a three-score lead. The Bulldogs made the score 4-1 on a goal by Cody Britton at 19:47 in the second period. Mitchell pulled to within 4-3 on a goal by Brent Rae at 12:53 in the third period.

Catto had two goals and one assist to lead Kincardine. Catto scored the first of his two goals at 11:27 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Shawn Flynn provided the assist. Catto's next tally made the score 5-4 Kincardine with 18:59 left in overtime. Britton assisted on the tally.

Kincardine also got points from Britton, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Kincardine included Jamie Miller and Sam Feagan, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Kincardine were Chad Simpson, Carter Strachan, Matt Baker, and Colin Whitfield, who each chipped in one.

The Hawks stifled the Bulldogs' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Mitchell kept Kincardine's goalie busy throughout the game, and Mitch Campbell made 39 saves on 43 shots.

The Hawks were helped by Adam Zehr, who grabbed one goal. Zehr scored on the power play 2:40 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Mitchell. Mitchell earned a power play opportunity when Luke Czuczman was put in the box for high sticking. Jalen Aitcheson provided the assist. Mitchell additionally got points from Ethen Adair, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Rae, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Greg Orr also scored for Mitchell.

The Bulldogs incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. For Kincardine, Dalton Hnatko was ejected from the game. The Hawks' Tyler MacGregor stopped 24 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Mitchell incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Hawks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ryan Sykes was ejected from the game.
