Mitchell squeaks by Kincardine, 4-3

The Mitchell Hawks gutted out a close 4-3 win against the Kincardine Bulldogs.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Brett Stacey secured the win for Mitchell with a goal in the third period.

With the win, the Hawks evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown.

Stacey had two goals to lead Mitchell to victory.

The Hawks' penalty kill excelled, as Mitchell gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

The Hawks stifled Kincardine's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Mitchell kept the Bulldogs' goalie busy throughout the game, and Mitch Campbell made 31 saves on 35 shots. The Hawks' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Mitchell also had goals scored by Ethen Adair and Brent Rae, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Mitchell were Greg Orr and Jerry Ennet, who contributed one a piece and Jalen Aitcheson and Tyler Pauli, who each chipped in two.

Kincardine was helped by Cody Britton, who registered one goal. Britton scored 6:42 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Kincardine. Brett Catto picked up the assist. Kincardine additionally got points from Catto, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Kincardine also got a goal from Shawn Moore as well. More assists for Kincardine came via Dalton Hnatko and Brandon Priestap, who contributed one a piece.

Tyler MacGregor rejected 25 shots on goal for Mitchell. The Hawks incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. For Mitchell, Scott Fries was ejected from the game. The Bulldogs ended with 23 minutes in penalty time with nine minors and one major. Kincardine ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Paul Lamont was ejected from the game.
