Hanover downs Mount Forest in overtime, 5-4 (OT)Mount Forest Tue, Feb 11, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Hanover Barons pulled out a 5-4 (OT) overtime victory over the Mount Forest Patriots on a clutch goal by Luke Richardson. After the loss made the series score 2-3 in the best of seven series, Mount Forest faces elimination next time out. Hanover came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Barons fell behind 2-0 after a goal by the Patriots' Ian Bridgwater at 6:59 in the first period. Hanover knotted things up at 5-5 on a goal by Brandon Eagles at 1:37 in the fourth period. The Barons pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 49 penalty minutes. Hanover put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Mount Forest to score on any of its 10 power plays. The Barons kept the Patriots' goalie busy throughout the game, and John Nixon made 47 saves on 52 shots. Hanover also got points from Justin D Graham, who also had one goal and one assist and Denver Hill, who also registered one goal and one assist. Hanover also had goals scored by Tanner Bastien and Jarrett Kuntz, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Hanover were Garrett Weigel, Zach Freiburger, and Andrew Scott, who each chipped in one. Mount Forest excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in 10 chances. The Patriots forced Hanover goalie Ben Errington to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. Mount Forest was helped by Justin Graham, who grabbed two goals. Graham scored the first of his two goals at 15:09 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Mount Forest. Cody Wright picked up the assist. Graham's next tally made the score 4-3 Mount Forest with 3:34 left in the third period. Eric Maecker also scored for Mount Forest. In addition, Mount Forest received assists from Doug Costanzo, who had two and Devin Williams, Matt Marshall, and Kyle Hunter, who contributed one a piece. Errington recorded 28 saves for the Barons. Hanover ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Bastien was ejected from the game. The Patriots incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
