Piit nets hat trick, leads Hanover to 7-4 win over Mount Forest

Brad Piit lifted the Hanover Barons to a 7-4 victory with a hat trick against the Mount Forest Patriots.

Piit got on the scoresheet 9:40 into the second period. He then added goals at 11:23 into the second and at 11:07 into the third.

After the loss made the series score 1-3 in the best of seven series, Mount Forest faces elimination next time out.

The Patriots fell victim to a deadly Hanover power play, which ripped Mount Forest for four goals.

The Barons kept the Patriots' goalie busy throughout the game, and John Nixon made 24 saves on 31 shots. The defensemen of Hanover were also effective in Mount Forest's zone, and came away with two goals.

Hanover also got points from Chris Hardy, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Jarrett Kuntz, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Hanover also had goals scored by Garrett Weigel and Denver Hill, who scored one goal each. In addition, Hanover received assists from Justin Graham, who had two and Tyson Soers and Brandon Eagles, who each chipped in one.

The Barons were unable to stop the Patriots from sending pucks towards the net, and Mount Forest eventually piled up 40 shots on goal.

The Patriots were led by Doug Costanzo, who finished with three goals. Mount Forest also got a goal from Mitch Betts as well. Other players who recorded assists for Mount Forest were Justin Graham, who had two and Nathan Woodard, Devin Williams, Matt Marshall, Cody Wright, Dean Nixon, and Ian Bridgwater, who contributed one a piece.

Ben Errington recorded 36 saves for Hanover. The Barons incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors. Mount Forest incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
