Mount Forest survives Hanover comeback, wins 4-3P and H Centre Fri, Feb 07, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Mount Forest Patriots survived a determined comeback attempt by the Hanover Barons on the way to a 4-3 win. A goal by Justin Graham put Mount Forest up 3-1 in the second period, but Hanover pulled to within one on Brad Piit's tally 3:19 into the third period. The win gave the Patriots a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series. Doug Costanzo was all over the ice for Mount Forest, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Costanzo scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 7:04 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Mount Forest. The Patriots had gained a power play chance when Josh Steffler was whistled for cross checking. Luke Richardson provided the assist. Costanzo's next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 Mount Forest with 5:15 left in the third period. Graham assisted on the tally. Mount Forest put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Barons to score on any of their three power plays. The Patriots forced Hanover goalie Ben Errington to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. Mount Forest also got points from Graham, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Doug Ardis also scored for Mount Forest. In addition, Mount Forest received assists from Mitch Betts, Trevor Hughson, and Dean Nixon, who contributed one a piece. The Barons were helped by Jarrett Kuntz, who had one goal. Kuntz scored 13:13 into the third period to make the score 3-3. Piit picked up the assist. Hanover additionally got points from Piit, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Hanover also got a goal from Andrew Scott as well. Other players who recorded assists for Hanover were Justin Graham, Denver Hill, and Tyson Soers, who each chipped in one. John Nixon recorded 27 saves for Mount Forest. The Patriots incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Ben Errington made 31 saves for Hanover on 35 shots. The Barons ended with 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. Team's Graham and Zach Freiburger were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
