Davis, Hughson lead Mount Forest over Hanover, 6-3

Behind one goal and two assists from Ben Davis and three goals and one assist from Trevor Hughson, the Mount Forest Patriots downed the Hanover Barons 6-3.

Davis scored on the power play 10:11 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Mount Forest. Mount Forest had taken the advantage when Hanover's Chris Hardy got sent off for roughing. Hughson assisted on the tally.

The win gave the Patriots a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Mount Forest's offense rang up 42 shots on the Barons' net. The Patriots were held back by their power play unit, which tallied two goals on 14 chances.

Mount Forest additionally got points from Hughson, who also finished with three goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Mount Forest also had goals scored by Mitch Betts and Dean Nixon, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Mount Forest were Justin Graham and Doug Ardis, who contributed one a piece.

Hanover kept Mount Forest's goalie busy throughout the game, and John Nixon made 37 saves on 40 shots.

The Barons were helped by Denver Hill, who grabbed two goals. Hill scored the first of his two goals at 6:17 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Hanover. Jarrett Kuntz picked up the assist. Hill's next tally made the score 2-1 Hanover with 4:49 left in the first period. Hanover had gotten the advantage when the Patriots' Graham was sent off for hooking. Tanner Bastien provided the assist. Hanover also got points from Kuntz, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, Hanover received assists from Andrew Scott, who had one.

Mount Forest incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. For the Patriots, Cody Wright was ejected from the game. Cam Harron rejected 36 shots on goal for the Barons. Hanover incurred 62 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors.
