Stayner squeaks by Erin, 5-3

The game between the Stayner Siskins and the Erin Shamrocks was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Stayner emerged with a 5-3 win.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Quinton Bruce secured the win for the Siskins with a goal in the third period.

The win gave Stayner a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Brandon Watson had two goals to lead the Siskins to victory. Watson found the back of the net 9:27 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Stayner and again while 14:53 into the third to make the score 4-2 Stayner.

Stayner pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 16 penalty minutes.

The Siskins forced Erin goalie Tom Denstedt to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots.

Ricky Darrell also scored for Stayner. Other players who recorded assists for Stayner were Kyle Lafreniere, who had two and Sean Healy, Ryan Hyndman, Corey DeRose, and Jackson Clarke, who each chipped in one.

The Shamrocks' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Stayner power plays.

Erin was helped by Josh Sguigna, who racked up two goals and one assist. Sguigna scored the first of his two goals at 17:07 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Stayner. James Watsonbag assisted on the tally. Sguigna's next tally made the score 4-4 with 1:45 left in the third period. Erin also got points from Chris Grenier, who also had one goal and one assist and Watsonbag, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Erin came via Travis Knight and Adam Gibson, who contributed one a piece.

Aaron Taylor recorded 27 saves for Stayner. Tom Denstedt made 34 saves for the Shamrocks on 38 shots. Erin incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
