Medeiros nets hat trick, leads Hagersville to 8-2 win over Simcoe

The Simcoe Storm could not stop the Hagersville Hawks' Derek Medeiros, who tallied a hat trick in an 8-2 win.

Medeiros got on the scoresheet 12:02 into the first period. He then added goals at 5:58 into the third and at 6:03 into the third.

The win by Hagersville clinched the best of seven series at 4-1.

Simcoe trailed by one after the first period, but the Hawks went into the second intermission with a 5-1 lead and never looked back.

The Storm fell victim to a deadly Hagersville power play, which ripped Simcoe for four goals.

The Hawks made Storm's netminders to work all game long, taking 59 shots and forcing 51 saves. Tim Porter made 41 stops and Evon Wolfe Apm made 10. Hagersville's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on 11 Simcoe power plays.

Hagersville additionally got points from Aleck Boyd, who also registered one goal and two assists. Mitch Green also scored for Hagersville. In addition, Hagersville received assists from Derek Friesen, who had three, Travis Bell, Kyle Phibbs, and Cole Martin, who each chipped in one, and Brad Hornby and Daniel Medeiros, who contributed two a piece.

The Hawks were unable to stop the Storm from sending pucks towards the net, and Simcoe eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

The Storm were led by Braden Walker, who registered one goal. Walker scored short handed 6:29 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Hagersville. Simcoe was on a disadvantage when Dan Stewart went off the ice for cross checking. S.Penwarden assisted on the tally. Simcoe also got a goal from Ray Munroe as well. Other players who recorded assists for Simcoe were Jamie Kelly, who had one.

Matt Murphy recorded 29 saves for Hagersville. The Hawks ended with 61 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major. For Hagersville, Nick Sherwood and Chris Martin were ejected from the contest. The Storm ended with 75 minutes in penalty time with 15 minors and one major. Simcoe ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Stewart was ejected from the game.
