Hagersville penalty kill dominates in 7-2 defeat of SimcoeTalbot Gardens Sun, Feb 09, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Simcoe Storm failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Hagersville Hawks shook off a number of penalties to win, 7-2. After the loss made the series score 3-1 in the best of seven series, Simcoe faces elimination next time out. Hagersville was sparked by Clayton Millard, who had one goal. Millard scored 18:47 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Hagersville. John Monture picked up the assist. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 7:38 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The Hawks forced the Storm's goalies to work between the pipes, firing 49 shots and forcing 42 saves. Tim Porter made 37 stops and Evon Wolfe Apm made five. Hagersville excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. Hagersville additionally got points from Daniel Medeiros, who also registered one goal and one assist and Derek Medeiros, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Hagersville also had goals scored by Aleck Boyd, who had two and Hayden Baird and Chris Martin, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Hagersville were Austin Dezeeuw, who had one. Simcoe's offense rang up 43 shots on the Hawks' net. The Storm were helped by Austin Richardson, who tallied one goal. Richardson scored 18:48 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Jordan Mckenzie assisted on the tally. Conner Robinson also scored for Simcoe. Matt Murphy recorded 41 saves for Hagersville. The Hawks totaled 29 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. Team's Mitch Green and Dezeeuw were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Simcoe ended with 35 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. For the Storm, Robinson was ejected from the game.
