Medeiros leads Hagersville over Simcoe, 5-2

The Hagersville Hawks' Derek Medeiros had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing two assists in his team's 5-2 win over the Simcoe Storm.

Medeiros found the back of the net on the power play 14:04 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Hagersville and again while 17:26 into the second to make the score 3-1 Hagersville.

The win by Hagersville broke a deadlock and gave the Hawks a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series.

Simcoe's 19 penalties came back to haunt it, as the Storm let up four goals while on the penalty kill.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 15:24 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Simcoe was unable to stop Hagersville from sending pucks towards the net, and the Hawks eventually piled up 63 shots on goal. Hagersville excelled on the penalty kill, only allowing the Storm to get one power play goal on 15 chances. The defensemen of the Hawks were also effective in Simcoe's zone, and came away with two goals.

Hagersville additionally got points from Brad Hornby, who also finished with two goals and one assist. Hagersville also got a goal from Chris Martin as well. In addition, Hagersville received assists from Aleck Boyd, who had two and Kyle Phibbs, who had three.

The Storm forced Hagersville goalie Matt Murphy to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

Simcoe was led by Braden Roberts, who grabbed two goals. Roberts scored the first of his two goals at 8:17 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Roberts' next tally made the score 4-2 Hagersville with 10:07 left in the third period. Alex Gamble picked up the assist. More assists for Simcoe came via Conner Robinson, who had one.

Murphy recorded 32 saves for the Hawks. Hagersville ended with 97 minutes in penalty time with 16 minors and one major. Team's Nick Sherwood and Clayton Millard were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. The Storm's Tim Porter stopped 58 shots out of the 63 that he faced. Simcoe ended with 81 minutes in penalty time with 18 minors and one major. For the Storm, Bryce Cadwell, Matthew DiPaolo, and Wade Metz were ejected from the contest.
