Hagersville squeaks by Simcoe, 6-4

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Hagersville Hawks escaped with a 6-4 victory over the Simcoe Storm.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Derek Medeiros secured the win for Hagersville with a goal in the second period.

With the win, the Hawks evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown.

Hagersville was paced on offense by Medeiros and Hayden Baird, who combined for four points. Medeiros grabbed two goals and one assist and Baird also added one goal.

The Hawks forced Simcoe goalie Tim Porter to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Hagersville also got points from Zach Maciel, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Derek Friesen, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Daniel Medeiros, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Hagersville were Travis Bell, Jacob Brown, and Cole Martin, who each chipped in one and Brad Hornby and Aleck Boyd, who contributed two a piece.

Hagersville was unable to stop the Storm from sending pucks towards the net, and Simcoe eventually piled up 39 shots on goal.

The Storm were helped by Jordan Mckenzie, who registered two goals. Mckenzie scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 11:43 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Simcoe. Simcoe had taken the advantage when the Hawks' Matt Murphy got sent off for delay of game. Anthony Van Looyen assisted on the tally. Mckenzie's next tally on the power play made the score 5-4 Hagersville with 1:46 left in the third period. Braden Roberts picked up the assist. Simcoe additionally got points from Roberts, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Ray Munroe also scored for Simcoe. More assists for Simcoe came via Conner Robinson, who had two and Justin Tatrie and Braedan Walker, who each chipped in one.

Murphy recorded 35 saves for Hagersville. The Hawks incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. The Storm's Porter stopped 27 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Simcoe incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
