Simcoe survives Hagersville comeback, wins 5-3

The Simcoe Storm survived a determined comeback attempt by the Hagersville Hawks on the way to a 5-3 win.

A goal by Braden Roberts put Simcoe up 5-2 in the third period, but Hagersville pulled to within two on Derek Medeiros's tally 19:15 into the third period.

The win gave the Storm a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Simcoe was led by Wade Metz, who tallied one goal and one assist. Metz scored 16:42 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Simcoe. Others who scored for Simcoe included Justin Tatrie, Austin Richardson, and S.Penwarden, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Simcoe were Dakota Culbert, who had two and Dan Stewart, Brad Vervacke, and Alex Gamble, who contributed one a piece.

The Hawks' offense rang up 47 shots on the Storm's net.

Hagersville was helped by Aleck Boyd, who racked up one goal and two assists. Boyd scored 11:25 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Simcoe. Medeiros provided the assist. Hagersville also got points from Daniel Medeiros, who also registered one goal and one assist and Medeiros, who also had one goal and two assists.

Tim Porter recorded 44 saves for Simcoe. The Storm incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. The Hawks took out Ian Sylves after he had made 11 saves and installed Matt Murphy in goal, where he finished with 11 saves and the loss. Hagersville incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
