Huge game by Slaght boosts Norwich over Wellesley, 6-2

Derek Slaght had two goals and two assists to lead the Norwich Merchants to a 6-2 victory over the Wellesley Applejacks.

Slaght's tallies came at 8:45 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Norwich and on the power play 18:13 into the third to make the score 6-2 Norwich.

The win by Norwich clinched the best of seven series at 4-3.

The Merchants kept Wellesley's goalie busy throughout the game, and Josh Heer made 28 saves on 34 shots.

Norwich additionally got points from Kurtis Lavis, who also registered one goal and one assist, Mitchell Berzins, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Ryan Stephenson, who also finished with two goals and one assist. In addition, Norwich received assists from Braeden Shand, who had two and Drake Morrell, Troy Lamoure, and Taylor Gosset, who each chipped in one.

The Applejacks were helped by Devon Wagner, who had one goal. Wagner scored on the power play 11:01 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Wellesley earned a power play opportunity when Slaght was put in the box for hooking. Wellesley also got a goal from Reid Denstedt as well. Other players who recorded assists for Wellesley were Taylor Doering and Blake Hetherington, who contributed one a piece.

Norwich's Zac Easveld stopped 22 shots out of the 24 that he faced. The Merchants incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Applejacks incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. For Wellesley, Jake Ariss was ejected from the game.
