Wellesley downs Norwich in overtime, 7-6 (OT)

Alex Stoody gave the Wellesley Applejacks a 7-6 (OT) victory over the Norwich Merchants when he scored 18:39 into the extra period.

Wellesley evened the best of seven series at 3-3 and forced a deciding game seven.

Although the Applejacks was up by as many as two goals in the third period, Norwich kept the game interesting by staging a comeback that ultimately fell short. The Merchants pulled to within 6-5 on a goal by Todd Poirier at 11:39 in the third period.

Wellesley excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances.

Wellesley additionally got points from Luke Rose, who also tallied two goals and one assist and Parker Wood, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Blake Hetherington also scored for Wellesley. In addition, Wellesley received assists from Devon Wagner, who had two, Brett MacDonald, who had three, and Taylor Doering, Cody Tapsell, and Sean McEwan, who contributed one a piece.

Norwich kept the Applejacks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Josh Heer made 36 saves on 42 shots. Penalties took their toll on the Merchants, as their penalty kill unit let in three power play goals.

Norwich was helped by Taylor Gosset, who racked up one goal. Gosset scored 2:11 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Norwich. Drake Morrell assisted on the tally. Norwich also got points from Derek Slaght, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Jordan Gillis, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Josh Herreman, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Norwich also got a goal from Ryan Stephenson as well. Other players who recorded assists for Norwich were Darren Clark, who had one and Todd Kemp, who had two.

Wellesley incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Patrick Maziarz made 13 saves before being replaced by Zac Easveld, who took the loss and made seven saves. The Merchants incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Norwich ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Poirier was ejected from the game.
