Mount Forest's comeback falls short, Walkerton wins 6-4

The Walkerton Hawks, who led by four goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by the Mount Forest Patriots and clinched a 6-4 victory.

Walkerton led by four goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Hawks' Brennon Pearce's scored at 51 seconds in the second period to put Walkerton up 4-0.

David Gallo had two goals and one assist to lead the Hawks. Gallo scored the first of his two goals at 11:31 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Walkerton. Brady Richards(AP) assisted on the tally. Gallo's next tally made the score 6-4 Walkerton with 50 seconds left in the third period. Jay Thomson provided the assist.

Walkerton forced Mount Forest's netminders to work in net, getting 36 shots and forcing 30 saves. Cole Wardlaw made 20 stops and John Nixon made 10.

Walkerton also got points from Chris Gillman, who also registered one goal and one assist. Brett Coulson also scored for Walkerton. Other players who recorded assists for Walkerton were Tyler Snyder, who had one and Ryan Hamelin and Lauchlin Elder, who contributed two a piece.

The Patriots kept the Hawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Jake Ireland made 31 saves on 35 shots.

Mount Forest was helped by Trevor Hughson, who finished with one goal and one assist. Hughson scored 14:06 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Walkerton. Justin Graham picked up the assist. Mount Forest additionally got points from Luke Richardson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Mount Forest also had goals scored by Nathan Woodard and Doug Ardis, who each put in one. In addition, Mount Forest received assists from Doug Costanzo, Mitch Betts, Eric Maecker, and Ben Davis, who each chipped in one.

Walkerton incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Patriots incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
