Burlington beats xWhitby 5-4 after comeback scare

The Burlington Cougars survived a determined comeback attempt by the xWhitby Fury on the way to a 5-4 win.

A goal by Paolo DeSousa put Burlington up 5-3 in the third period, but xWhitby pulled to within one on Ryan Kirkup's tally 16:14 into the third period.

Daniel Campbell had one goal and two assists to lead the Cougars. Campbell scored 19:29 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Burlington. Ryan Wilkinson picked up the assist.

Burlington kept the Fury's goalie busy throughout the game, and Tyler Feaver made 32 saves on 37 shots. The Cougars found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Burlington has scored at the pace of 2.5 goals per game during the current campaign.

Burlington additionally got points from Neil Aird, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, Wilkinson, who also registered one goal and one assist, DeSousa, who also had one goal and one assist, and Christian Burel, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for Burlington came via Ryan Sullivan, who had one and Tyler Lepore, who had two.

The Cougars were unable to stop xWhitby from sending pucks towards the net, and the Fury eventually piled up 42 shots on goal.

xWhitby was led by Jeff Murray, who tallied three goals. xWhitby also got points from Kirkup, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, xWhitby received assists from Henry Thompson, who had two and Connor Hale, Mike Panowyk, Greg Milner, Adam Clements, and Taylor Best, who contributed one a piece.

Jeremy Currie rejected 38 shots on goal for Burlington. The Cougars incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Fury incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
