Gagnon's big game bests Wallaceburg in 4-1 Amherstburg win

Behind a great game by Luke Gagnon, who had two goals and one assist, the Amherstburg Admirals defeated the Wallaceburg Lakers, 4-1.

Gagnon found the back of the net 8:54 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Amherstburg and again while on the power play 18:12 into the second to make the score 3-1 Amherstburg.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 5:57 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Amherstburg put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Wallaceburg to score on any of its three power plays.

Others who scored for Amherstburg included Connor Rennie and Blake Rutckyj, who each put in one. In addition, Amherstburg received assists from Dan Matoski, who had two and Cody Leeming, Mark Sobocan, Kyler Carter, and Ryan Jones, who each chipped in one.

The Lakers were led by Justin Whitson, who scored the team's only goal. Whitson scored 14:36 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Mike Zottl picked up the assist.

Klinton Kenney made 16 saves for the Admirals on 17 shots. Amherstburg totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 1-for-7 on the power play. Team's Brett Beattie and Jordan Luciw were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Wallaceburg's Ben Vankessel stopped 24 shots out of the 28 that he faced. The Lakers ended with 35 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. For Wallaceburg, Jordan Eagen was ejected from the game.
