Delhi falls to Woodstock in overtime, 6-5 (OT)Woodstock Community Center Sat, Jan 18, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
Matt Jauernig gave the Woodstock Navy Vets a 6-5 (OT) victory over the Delhi Travellers when he scored 3:45 into the extra period. Delhi could not complete its climb out of a two-goal hole. Woodstock made the score 5-3 on a goal by Dan Haig at 18:29 in the second period. The Travellers pulled to within 5-4 on a goal by Mike DeCoene at 1:50 in the third period. The Navy Vets got the win on the strength of a great game by Jauernig, who had two goals and two assists. Jauernig scored the first of his two goals at 15:06 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Woodstock. Jauernig's next tally made the score 6-5 Woodstock with 16:15 left in overtime. Nathan Innes assisted on the tally. Delhi was unable to stop Woodstock from sending pucks towards the net, and the Navy Vets eventually piled up 58 shots on goal. Woodstock surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Navy Vets have scored at the pace of 2.3 goals per game during the current campaign. Woodstock also had goals scored by Brandon Velda and Garrett Whetham, who scored one goal each. More assists for Woodstock came via Braden Hutchison, Nick Zehr, Mackenzie Scott, Taylor DeClercq, and Tyler Brown, who each chipped in one. The Travellers' offense rang up 45 shots on Woodstock's net. Delhi outdid its season average for goals scored. The Travellers average 2.7 goals per game. Delhi was helped by Michael Thomlison, who racked up one goal. Thomlison scored 12:38 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Delhi. Delhi additionally got points from Brad Ward, who also registered one goal and one assist and DeCoene, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Delhi included Jeremy Jacobs and Taylor Hockley, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Delhi were Justin Plant, who had two. The Navy Vets' Michael Roefs stopped 40 shots out of the 45 that he faced. Woodstock incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Jordan Ironside made 52 saves for the Travellers on 58 shots. Delhi totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 1-for-8 on the power play. The Travellers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Gavin Crandall was ejected from the game.
