Amherstburg uses shootout to best Blenheim, 2-1 (2-0 SO)

Blenheim Memorial Arena    Wed, Jan 15, 2014

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Amherstburg Admirals defeated the Blenheim Blades in a shootout 2-1 (2-0 SO).

The two teams needed four turns to complete the shootout. Amherstburg also got a shootout goal from Kyler Carter.

The Admirals overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Amherstburg was down 1-0 after a goal by Blenheim's Derek Muzzatti at 5:32 in the first period. The Admirals tied things up at 1-1 on a goal by Mark Gagnon at 11:02 in the first period.

The Blades were stymied by Amherstburg netminder Arren Romeril, who stopped 38 shots during the victory. The solid play of Romeril will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.57.

The Admirals excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Amherstburg's offense rang up 32 shots on Blenheim's net.

In addition, Amherstburg received assists from Curtis Prymack and Ryan Alexander, who contributed one a piece.

The Blades' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Amherstburg power plays. Blenheim did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Blades average 4.0 goals per game. Blenheim forced the Admirals goalie Romeril to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots.

Other players who recorded assists for Blenheim were Conner Annett and Kirk McKillop, who each chipped in one.
