Howze nets hat trick, leads Texas to 6-2 win over Boulder Bison

Landyn Howze netted a hat trick to lead Texas over Boulder Bison, 6-2.

Howze notched his first tally 6:06 into the first period. He then added goals at 18:28 into the first and at 6:50 into the second.

Texas forced Boulder Bison goalie Colin Champine to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. Texas' goal total was higher than its season average. Texas averages 3.8 goals per game. Texas was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to two goals off of nine man advantages.

Texas also got points from Miguel Caron, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Viktor Brask also scored for Texas. Other players who recorded assists for Texas were Collin Young, who had two, Austin Murray, who had three, and Jimmy Anderson and Tobias Sjolund, who contributed one a piece.

Boulder Bison racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and two majors for 32 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 20.0 minutes per game Boulder Bison had been spending in the box.

Boulder Bison was helped by Casey Riccatone, who finished with one goal. Riccatone scored on the power play 5:28 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Boulder Bison. Boulder Bison had gotten the advantage when Texas' Howze was sent off for boarding. Hunter Behrens provided the assist. Boulder Bison also got a goal from Ryan Fitzgerald as well. More assists for Boulder Bison came via Tanner West, Mark Kepple, and Chance Creger, who each chipped in one.

Ryan Mulka made 27 saves for Texas on 29 shots. Texas incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Boulder Bison's Champine stopped 29 shots out of the 35 that he faced. Boulder Bison registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Boulder Bison ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Cameron Gardner was ejected from the game.
