Melbourne Ice vanquishes Sydney Sirens in shootout, 3-2 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Melbourne Ice defeated Sydney Sirens in a shootout 3-2 (2-0 SO).

The two teams needed four turns to complete the shootout. Melbourne Ice's other shootout goal was scored by Shona Green.

Melbourne Ice overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Melbourne Ice trailed 2-0 after a goal by Sydney Sirens' Michelle Cox at 6:39 in the second period. Melbourne Ice tied things up at 2-2 on a power play goal by Lucy Parrington at 16:21 in the third period.

Parrington had two goals to lead Melbourne Ice to victory.

Melbourne Ice's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Sydney Sirens power plays. Melbourne Ice put 42 shots on net during the contest, more than the 4.7 it averages per game.

Other players who recorded assists for Melbourne Ice were Maia Smith-Merovitz, Sarah Teed, and Green, who contributed one a piece.

The 23 shots that Sydney Sirens put on net surpassed Sydney Sirens' average of 1.3 shot per game this season. Sydney Sirens could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 18 minutes in penalties during the game.

Sydney Sirens additionally got points from Sharna Godfrey, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Sydney Sirens received assists from Sara Edmonds and Stephanie Cochrane, who each chipped in one.
