Farmingdale State beats University at Albany 7-5 after comeback scare

The University at Albany Great Danes tried to dig themselves out of a six-goal hole, but the Farmingdale State Rams held on for a 7-5 victory.

A goal by Michael Leprine put Farmingdale State up 6-0 in the second period, but University at Albany pulled to within two on Jonathan Demeo's tally 7:40 into the third period.

Scott Brennan was all over the ice for the Rams, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Brennan scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 9:56 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Farmingdale State. Farmingdale State earned a power play opportunity when Marc Lamoreaux was put in the box for roughing. Leprine picked up the assist. Brennan's next tally on the power play made the score 3-0 Farmingdale State with 1:40 left in the first period. An elbowing penalty on Brian Macarthur had put the Rams on the power play. Jack Radin assisted on the tally.

Farmingdale State's offense rang up 43 shots on the Great Danes' net. The Rams gave up more goals than its normal season average. Farmingdale State is averaging 2.5 goals against for the season. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with four goals.

Farmingdale State also got points from Radin, who also registered one goal and two assists, Justin Von Wieding, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Leprine, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Farmingdale State also got a goal from Brendan Ciliotta as well. More assists for Farmingdale State came via Danato Carbone, Kyle Catalano, Joseph Petrizzo, and Matthew Ginsberg, who each chipped in one.

University at Albany got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. The Great Danes struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 26 penalty minutes for eight opposing power plays.

University at Albany additionally got points from Ryan Starstrom, who also had one goal and one assist. Tim Waters also scored for University at Albany. In addition, University at Albany received assists from Sean Duffy, Dave Defranco, Robert Campbell, Cole Mugford, and AJ Lemacchia, who contributed one a piece.

Austin Liddycoat took the win and made 21 saves before being replaced by Greg Jacobsen who made three saves. University at Albany's Justin Halman stopped 36 shots out of the 43 that he faced. The Great Danes registered two goals on zero power play opportunities.
