Soo Firehawks holds on for 6-4 win against Bloomington Jr BlazeGrossinger Motors Arena Sun, Jan 12, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
Bloomington Jr Blaze tried to dig itself out of a three-goal hole, but Soo Firehawks held on for a 6-4 victory. Soo Firehawks made the score 6-3 on a goal by Ryan Marshall at 17:17 in the third period, and Bloomington Jr Blaze got as close as 6-4 when Micah Young scored 18:41 into the third period. Andrew Holder had a great game for Soo Firehawks, netting two goals. Holder found the back of the net on the power play 3:57 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Soo Firehawks and again while 13:44 into the third to make the score 5-3 Soo Firehawks. Soo Firehawks forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and two majors for 56 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 24.0 minutes per game Soo Firehawks had been spending in the box. Soo Firehawks' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Bloomington Jr Blaze power plays. Soo Firehawks kept Bloomington Jr Blaze's goalie busy throughout the game, and Paul Stomper made 32 saves on 38 shots. Soo Firehawks also got points from Marshall, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Tyler Jones, who also registered one goal and one assist. Soo Firehawks also had goals scored by Dakota Boissoneau and Nick Papandrea, who scored one goal each.
