Murphy nets hat trick, leads Soo Firehawks to 10-5 win over Bloomington Jr Blaze

Nicholas Murphy netted a hat trick to lead Soo Firehawks over Bloomington Jr Blaze, 10-5.

Murphy's first goal came 12:05 into the first period. He then added goals at 2:32 into the third and at 11:30 into the third.

Soo Firehawks forced Bloomington Jr Blaze's goaltenders to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots and forcing 25 saves. Kent Nusbaum made 23 stops and Paul Stomper made two. Soo Firehawks bested its season scoring average. Soo Firehawks has scored at the pace of 5.4 goals per game during the current campaign.

Soo Firehawks also got points from Andrew Holder, who also registered two goals and five assists to lead the team in points and Cody Anderson, who also finished with two goals and four assists. Soo Firehawks also got a goal from Ryan Marshall as well. In addition, Soo Firehawks received assists from Trevor McRorie, who had two and Luke Wizauer, Matthew MacLaren, Robby Boissoneau, and Taylor McRorie, who each chipped in one.

Bloomington Jr Blaze was led by Micah Young, who grabbed two goals and one assist. Young scored the first of his two goals at 4:42 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Bloomington Jr Blaze. Young's next tally made the score 2-1 Bloomington Jr Blaze with 9:40 left in the first period. Bloomington Jr Blaze earned a power play opportunity when Justin Garton was put in the box for slashing. Justus Kree picked up the assist. Bloomington Jr Blaze additionally got points from Kree, who also registered one goal and one assist. Bloomington Jr Blaze also had goals scored by Nicholas Fleming and Peter Carlin, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Bloomington Jr Blaze were David Wandell, Garret Maged, and Dylan Farmer, who contributed one a piece.

Nicolas Berlingieri made 21 saves for Soo Firehawks on 26 shots. Soo Firehawks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Bloomington Jr Blaze incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
