Soo Firehawks downs Traverse City Hounds in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

Soo Firehawks pulled out a 5-4 (OT) overtime victory over Traverse City Hounds on a clutch goal by Nicholas Murphy.

Soo Firehawks came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Soo Firehawks was down 2-0 after a goal by Traverse City Hounds' Scott Luca at 7:45 in the first period. Soo Firehawks knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Kevin Miloser at 9:58 in the third period.

Soo Firehawks was led by Murphy, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Murphy scored 4:59 into overtime to make the score 5-4 Soo Firehawks. Kevin Killips provided the assist.

Soo Firehawks forced Traverse City Hounds goalie David Krejcik to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Soo Firehawks additionally got points from Cody Anderson, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Soo Firehawks were Matthew Majic, Trevor McRorie, and Ryan Marshall, who contributed one a piece.

Traverse City Hounds' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Soo Firehawks power plays. Soo Firehawks was unable to stop Traverse City Hounds from sending pucks towards the net, and Traverse City Hounds eventually piled up 41 shots on goal. Traverse City Hounds gave up more goals than its normal season average. Traverse City Hounds is averaging 2.0 goals against for the season. The defensemen of Traverse City Hounds were also effective in Soo Firehawks' zone, and came away with two goals.

Traverse City Hounds was helped by Garrett Cebalt, who registered one goal. Cebalt scored 5:10 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Traverse City Hounds. Premysl Synek picked up the assist. Traverse City Hounds also got points from Jacob Gillis, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Traverse City Hounds came via Adam Jonak and Zach Early, who each chipped in one.

Soo Firehawks' Brandon Hansen stopped 37 shots out of the 41 that he faced. Soo Firehawks ended with 33 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. For Soo Firehawks, Tyler Jones was ejected from the game. Krejcik rejected 36 shots on goal for Traverse City Hounds. Traverse City Hounds totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 0-for-1 on the power play.
