Gillis leads Traverse City Hounds over Soo Firehawks, 5-2

Traverse City Hounds' Jacob Gillis had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing three assists in his team's 5-2 win over Soo Firehawks.

Gillis beat Brandon Hansen with a shot 4:22 into the second period short handed to make the score 2-1 Traverse City Hounds. Jordan Ruterbusch provided the assist. Gillis dished an assist on Kevin Miloser's goal that made the score 3-1 Traverse City Hounds at 15:39 into the second period. He then added assists on Adam Jonak's goal at 12:05 into the third and on Alex Devries's goal at 15:54 into the third.

Traverse City Hounds' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Soo Firehawks power plays. Traverse City Hounds kept Soo Firehawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Hansen made 30 saves on 35 shots.

Traverse City Hounds also got points from Ruterbusch, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for Traverse City Hounds came via Zach Early, Kevin Hansen, Patrick Rogowski, and Matthew Passino, who contributed one a piece.

The Soo Firehawks penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled five minors and two majors for 30 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 24.0 minutes per game Soo Firehawks had been spending in the box. Soo Firehawks did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. Soo Firehawks puts an average of 5.6 pucks into the net per game. Soo Firehawks forced Traverse City Hounds goalie David Krejcik to work between the pipes, taking 44 shots.

Soo Firehawks was helped by Calder Ashton, who registered one goal. Ashton scored 4:07 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Traverse City Hounds. Nicholas Murphy picked up the assist. Ryan Marshall also scored for Soo Firehawks. In addition, Soo Firehawks received assists from Kevin Killips, who had one.

Traverse City Hounds' Krejcik stopped 42 shots out of the 44 that he faced. Traverse City Hounds totaled 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 1-for-5 on the power play.
