Berkley Bruins uses shootout to best Detroit Fighting Irish, 5-4 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Berkley Bruins defeated Detroit Fighting Irish in a shootout 5-4 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams.

Berkley Bruins overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Berkley Bruins fell behind 4-3 after a goal by Detroit Fighting Irish's Chadwick Cobb at 6:47 in the second period. Berkley Bruins tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Timothy Muhsman at 12:29 in the third period.

Muhsman had two goals to lead Berkley Bruins to victory.

Berkley Bruins' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Detroit Fighting Irish power plays. Berkley Bruins' offense rang up 37 shots on Detroit Fighting Irish's net. The defensemen of Berkley Bruins were also effective in Detroit Fighting Irish's zone, and came away with two goals.

Others who scored for Berkley Bruins included Austin Postek and Vaughn Clouston, who scored one goal each. More assists for Berkley Bruins came via Grant McCormack, who had three and Colton James, Shane Zigman, Jesse Peabody, and Kory Dombrowski, who contributed one a piece.

Detroit Fighting Irish racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 22.0 minutes per game Detroit Fighting Irish had been spending in the box. Detroit Fighting Irish excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Detroit Fighting Irish forced Berkley Bruins goalie Dombrowski to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots.

Detroit Fighting Irish was led by Anthony Wojciechowski, who racked up one goal and one assist. Wojciechowski scored 8:18 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Detroit Fighting Irish. Christian Ramage assisted on the tally. Detroit Fighting Irish additionally got points from Ken Winter, who also had one goal and one assist and Ryan Santo, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, Detroit Fighting Irish received assists from Robert Speer and Michael Cruse, who each chipped in one.

Kory Dombrowski made 34 saves for Berkley Bruins on 38 shots. Berkley Bruins ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. Berkley Bruins ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Clouston was ejected from the game. Tyler Skulley recorded 32 saves for Detroit Fighting Irish. For Detroit Fighting Irish, Winter was ejected from the game.
