Michigan Ice Dogs hangs on, beats Bloomington Jr Blaze 6-4

Drew Hull scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and Michigan Ice Dogs held off the challenges of Bloomington Jr Blaze in a tough 6-4 win.

Michigan Ice Dogs took over the lead for good with a goal by Hull at 18:07 in the first period. Cory Markovich picked up the assist.

Michigan Ice Dogs was paced on offense by Matthew Hartford and Hunter Ledgerwood, who combined for five points. Hartford tallied two goals and Ledgerwood also added one goal and two assists.

Michigan Ice Dogs' penalty kill excelled, as Michigan Ice Dogs gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Michigan Ice Dogs forced Bloomington Jr Blaze goalie Paul Stomper to work between the pipes, taking 44 shots.

Michigan Ice Dogs additionally got points from Ledgerwood, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Michigan Ice Dogs also got a goal from Logan Bennett as well. Other players who recorded assists for Michigan Ice Dogs were Michael Diaz, who had two and Cameron Kucharski and Marc Rotondo, who each chipped in one.

Michigan Ice Dogs was unable to stop Bloomington Jr Blaze from sending pucks towards the net, and Bloomington Jr Blaze eventually piled up 35 shots on goal.

Bloomington Jr Blaze was led by Jorey Skelton, who grabbed two goals. Skelton scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 6:23 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Bloomington Jr Blaze. Bloomington Jr Blaze had gotten the advantage when Michigan Ice Dogs' Brent Young was sent off for slashing. Dylan Farmer provided the assist. Skelton's next tally on the power play made the score 5-4 Michigan Ice Dogs with 1:40 left in the third period. Garret Maged picked up the assist. Bloomington Jr Blaze also got points from Farmer, who also registered one goal and one assist. Micah Young also scored for Bloomington Jr Blaze. More assists for Bloomington Jr Blaze came via Steven Smoltz, who had two.

Anthony Veresan rejected 31 shots on goal for Michigan Ice Dogs. Michigan Ice Dogs incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Bloomington Jr Blaze's Stomper stopped 38 shots out of the 42 that he faced. Bloomington Jr Blaze incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
