Detroit Fighting Irish uses shootout to best Traverse City Hounds, 3-2 (3-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Detroit Fighting Irish defeated Traverse City Hounds in a shootout 3-2 (3-1 SO).

The two teams needed eight turns to complete the shootout. Traverse City Hounds got a shootout goal from Cam Fisher. Detroit Fighting Irish's other shootout goals were scored by Ken Winter and Nolan Jakrzewski.

Detroit Fighting Irish saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Detroit Fighting Irish made the score 2-0 on a power play goal by James Smith at 1:08 in the third period. Traverse City Hounds evened things up at 2-2 on a power play goal by Fisher at 14:34 in the third period.

Detroit Fighting Irish stifled Traverse City Hounds' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Detroit Fighting Irish's offense rang up 36 shots on Traverse City Hounds' net.

Detroit Fighting Irish also got points from Winter, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. In addition, Detroit Fighting Irish received assists from Robert Speer, who had one.

Traverse City Hounds was held below its usual level of production. Traverse City Hounds averages 5.8 goals per game. Traverse City Hounds kept Detroit Fighting Irish's goalie busy throughout the game, and John Slavik made 31 saves on 33 shots.

Traverse City Hounds was helped by Matthew Passino, who registered one goal. Passino scored 9:32 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Detroit Fighting Irish. Alex Devries picked up the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Traverse City Hounds were Scott Luca, Jacob Gillis, and Dalton Gertsen, who each chipped in one.

Detroit Fighting Irish totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-6 on the power play. David Krejcik rejected 33 shots on goal for Traverse City Hounds. Traverse City Hounds totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 0-for-3 on the power play.
