Traverse City Hounds beats Michigan Ice Dogs 8-2 as Gillis gets hat trick

Jacob Gillis netted a hat trick to lead Traverse City Hounds over Michigan Ice Dogs, 8-2.

Gillis got on the scoresheet 3:53 into the first period. He then added goals at 17:03 into the first and at 16:33 into the second.

Traverse City Hounds made Michigan Ice Dogs' netminders to work in net, launching 37 shots and forcing 29 saves. Vincent Ryckman made 18 stops and Jacob Dugan made 11. Traverse City Hounds excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The defensemen of Traverse City Hounds were also effective in Michigan Ice Dogs' zone, and came away with two goals.

Traverse City Hounds also got points from Scott Luca, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Alex Devries, who also racked up one goal and two assists, and Cam Fisher, who also had one goal and two assists. Jordan Ruterbusch also scored for Traverse City Hounds. In addition, Traverse City Hounds received assists from Patrick Rogowski, Josh Smith, Nathan Nelson, and Kenneth Simmons Jr, who each chipped in one.

Michigan Ice Dogs managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Michigan Ice Dogs wound up below its season average of 30.0 penalty minutes per game.

Michigan Ice Dogs was helped by Drew Hull, who finished with one goal. Hull scored 1:28 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Michigan Ice Dogs. Michigan Ice Dogs also got a goal from Robert Schultz as well. Other players who recorded assists for Michigan Ice Dogs were Hunter Ledgerwood, who had one.
