Detroit Fighting Irish outlasts Soo Firehawks, 5-3

Detroit Fighting Irish gutted out a close 5-3 win against Soo Firehawks.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Aaron Robinson at 9:21 of the third period.

Detroit Fighting Irish got the win thanks to a great game by Ryan Santo, who had two goals and one assist. Santo scored the first of his two goals at 5:08 into the first period to make the score 1-1. James Smith provided the assist. Santo's next tally made the score 5-3 Detroit Fighting Irish with 49 seconds left in the third period.

Detroit Fighting Irish's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Soo Firehawks power plays. Soo Firehawks was unable to stop Detroit Fighting Irish from sending pucks towards the net, and Detroit Fighting Irish eventually piled up 35 shots on goal.

Detroit Fighting Irish additionally got points from Robinson, who also had one goal and one assist and Smith, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Detroit Fighting Irish also got a goal from Chadwick Cobb as well. In addition, Detroit Fighting Irish received assists from Christian Ramage, who had one and Robert Speer, who had two.

Soo Firehawks stifled Detroit Fighting Irish's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Soo Firehawks did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. Soo Firehawks puts an average of 8.5 pucks into the net per game. Soo Firehawks forced Detroit Fighting Irish goalie John Slavik to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

Soo Firehawks was led by Nicholas Murphy, who grabbed three goals. Other players who recorded assists for Soo Firehawks were Kevin Killips, who had two and Andrew Holder and Brandon Hansen, who each chipped in one.

Detroit Fighting Irish's Slavik stopped 28 shots out of the 31 that he faced. Detroit Fighting Irish incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Brandon Hansen made 30 saves for Soo Firehawks on 35 shots. Soo Firehawks incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
